Denise Lessow has enjoyed helping students learn during more than 25 years as a tutor, university faculty member, curriculum developer, and director of a nonprofit school and learning center.
In the last few years, she has tutored almost 6000 hours in a range of subjects with consistently top ratings. Her students on the TEAS, HESI, and NLN Pax have reached scores in the top 10% of all test takers across all subject areas.
Denise Lessow remained in Bloomington, Indiana after completing her doctoral degree at Indiana University in 1990. As a kid, science and math were some of her favorite subjects. She was always taking things apart, looking under the microscope, or solving puzzles.
Denise majored in chemistry as an undergrad, followed by earning an M.A. in teaching.
She has found that most students understand a subject better when they learn by breaking materials into smaller sections, seeing real examples, and practicing strategies for answering questions. Denise enjoys helping students realize that with the right approach and strategies they can achieve in subjects like chemistry, math, and physics.
She has an extensive background in helping students with dyslexia and other learning challenges harness their visual and problem solving talents to realize their potential.
Along with tutoring students for pre-nursing exams, Denise tutors a range of science and math content classes, along with test preparation for the PRAXIS, ASVAB, GRE, SAT, ACT.
In her free time, she enjoys drawing and painting with watercolors, and has exhibited her work locally.
